Re: Used Optima XL-A

 Dear Michelle, dear John,

I certainly think (or at least thought) that a used Optima XL-A, after
having
been checked and repaired at Palo Alto, should be in a good state. Ours is
not,
and this is mainly due to a very low intensity. The latter, in turn, is
mainly
due to the monochromator which really exterminates light: If we put the
new
(old) monochromator into our old maschine (buildt in 1992), intensity
drops by
nearly a factor of 3. And this is not a problem of imperfect matching: If
we
put our old monochromator into the "new" maschine, intensity goes up by
the
same factor (though it is still lower than in our old maschine, which
nevertheless is not better than average). Up to now, Beckman simply did
not
react to our well-documented complaints. Fortunately, we still have a bank

  surety by them.

  Best regards,
  Dieter
