no more lamp cleaning

Hi,

On a recent trip to Germany, I visited Dr. Mueller at Bayer, and was
surprised to see that their XLA was equipped with a lamp that no longer
requires cleaning. Has anyone gathered any experience/comparison data
for this lamp? Are there any disadvantages?
