Three further comments:
(1) This is one reason why many of us put the centrifuge control computer on
the local network and access the raw data files for analysis from another
computer, through the network. The network access does not seem to cause any
problems with data acquisition. Keeping the data files on the XL-I computer
rather than copying them to another machine for analysis has the advantage
of insuring there is only one version of a particular file, and makes data
back-up much easier.
(2) Technically if you are going to run the Origin analysis software on
another computer you need to buy another Origin software license. However,
if you are going to do all the analysis on another computer anyway (which I
do highly recommend), you really don't need the Origin copy on the
instrument control computer. My freeware program XLGraph will allow you to
do any needed display or printing of your data on the instrument computer
without Origin being present, and is used for such purposes by many labs.
XLGraph can be found on the RASMB site or Bo's mirror site.
(3) Yes, "memory leaks", resource loss, and other problems that build up
over time are a problem with Windows-based computers. This is one reason
why such machines that are left on all the time need to be re-booted
periodically. A very large fraction of all the inquiries I get regarding
problems with DCDT+ or SVEDBERG are solved when I ask 'When did you last
re-boot the computer?'.

Hello .
Please comment on the feasibility of doing data analysis with beckman
approved software while collecting sedimentation or equilibrium data from
the AUC on the PC driving the AUC. We have found that you can't be in the
same room with the system without creating a problem for the XLI software.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
