Torque Stand slackness

My torque stand seems to be losing its grip! I don't think it's
the actual collet that's the problem, but whatever holds the
position of the handle. Rather than use excessive force on the
handle to keep the cell in position while tightening up (which I
suspect may be what leads to the broken handles discussed lately),
has anyone found a way of reinvigorating torque stands? I was
considering taking mine apart to investigate, and wondered if
fellow centrifugalists had any views or tips?
