Hi Laila,
I put out the same query back in May of this year and received lots of
helpful advice from many of the experienced AUC people. If you email me
your fax #, I'll forward the responses I received to you. Although it
doesn't deal specifically with shorter path length centerpieces, Tom Laue's
article "Choosing which Optical System of the Optima XL-I Analytical
Ultracentrifuge to Use", published by Beckman (#A-1821A), details the
advantages and disadvantages of the two optical systems in the XL-I. It is
an excellent reference for those just getting started in the field.
