Density and viscosity of D2O

Hi Geoff and RASMBERS:

         There are very large viscosity and density corrections when using 
D2O or D2O:H2O mixtures. I have attached a Table of Density and Relative 
Viscosity Values of Volume Percent Mixtures of Pure D2O and H2O at 20oC 
from Kirschenbaum, I. Physical Properties and Analysis of Heavy Water, 
pp.1-41. New York, McGraw-Hill, 1951.  This book is out of print but may be 
in your University Library. Hence I have provided a Table for those who can 
not obtain the book. The chapter in the book has values in specific 
gravities and I made the conversion to density values at 20C.  We have used 
the values in the Table for our band sedimentation work with good agreement 
to boundary values performed in standard buffers. Of course it is necessary 
to increment the contribution of the density and viscosity of the buffer 
that you use for the experiment.  We are in the process of experimentally 
determining density and viscosity of D2O:H2O mixtures in several common 
buffers.
