************************** announcement ******************************

           Analytical Ultracentrifuge Software Developers Forum

An email forum has been set up as a subgroup of the RASMB email forum for
the purpose of discussing matters related to software & hardware development
for the Beckman XL-A/XL-I analytical ultracentrifuges.

Since this will be a rather technical discussion, it will not of interest
to the many of the other RASMBers, but anybody who wants to be inloved or
wants to just listen, should join the group.

To post messages for discussion please send them to

		spin@bbri.harvard.edu

Please send requests for inclusion in the gruop to

		Stafford@bbri.harvard.edu

The current topic of discussion that initiated this subgroup is
concerned with developing a binary file format.

The main points of discussion so far have revolved around

1. speeding up the acquisition cycle time
2. reducing disk space
3. speeding up the reading of data files by analysis software
4. a user option to use either ASCII or binary as the primary file type

A second topic concerned database formats for organizing data by run type,
optical system etc...
