New Software on RASMB server
Dear RASMBers,
I have placed an updated version of the MSTAR program onto the RASMB
ftp server. The MSTAR update now handles files from the Rayleigh interference
optics of the XL-I as well as from absorption optics.
Furthermore I have programmed an analysis program for interacting systems
using the PSI function recently developed by Wills, Winzor and Jacobsen:
Wills PR, Jacobsen MP, Winzor DJ (1996) Biopolymers 38: 119-130
as a modified form of the Omega-function. The PSI function can be used
for self-associations as well as for heterologeous interactions.
The PSI analysis has the advantage of an easier extrapolation to 0 concentration
to find the concentration of the smallest sedimenting species at the reference
radius. Thus, I have discarded the programs for the Omega analysis available
so far and replaced them by the corresponding PSI programs. Like MSTAR,
the PSI program is a DOS program available for interference and absorption
scans from the XL-I.
Both, MSTAR and PSI are model independent approaches which permit the evaluation
of sedimentation equilibrium data without any assumption about the kind
of system. This makes these programs particularly useful for unknown systems.
There is a documentation available for MSTAR as Winword 6.0 file and a brief
description of the PSI-program in the same format. The programs, documentation
and some sample files are packed with PKZIP into MSTARPSI.ZIP. The PKUNZIP
program needed to extract the files has therefore been placed onto the
server as
well. There is a short README.1ST ASCII file describing the program
installation.
The programs can be found under RASMB/SPIN/MS_DOS/MSTAR-COELFEN.
I hope that the programs prove to be useful for some of you.
Best regards
Helmut Coelfen
