Geoff-
Thank you for the information on differential sedimentation. I may get up 
the courage to try it yet! I wonder if Walt Stafford would comment on the 
possibility of using dC/dt with differential sedimentation. The ability 
to remove the background noise sure would be nice when trying to 
integrate the peak. 

Also, we should request that the next version of the software allow the
automatic gain to be disabled (if this is not already in the software
spec). It would be nice if there was a built in protocol for differential 
sedimentation- one of my tasks this summer (northern hemisphere) is to 
complete the development of "methods" editor so that anyone can work up a 
protocol for operating the XLA, then distribute it to the rest of us lazy 
folks. I will try to remember to make the disabling of the auto-gain a 
feature (but the necessary firmware changes would have to be done by 
Barney, Shokoh and the gang in Palo Alto).
